Extra Credit Book Events

Here are two amazing book events that you can use for Culture Vulture or Extra Credit. I will be attending the Thursday event at the MFA with Julia Alvarez. While it has a hefty ticket price, there are often free tickets given out.

=========================
Jodi Picoult - Sing You Home ($5)
Wednesday 03/02/2011 6:00 pm
Brookline Booksmith

Join us for an evening of story and song with the NYT best-selling author of My Sister’s Keeper, House Rules, and The Pact. In her new novel, Picoult tells the tale of Zoe Baxter, who finds love where she didn’t expect it and ends up pitted against her ex-husband in a legal battle at the forefront of the gay rights debate. This event will take place at the Coolidge Corner Theatre. Tickets are $5 each and will go on sale on Monday 2/7. You can purchase them by calling 617.566.6660 or dropping by the Booksmith.

Born in the US and raised in the Dominican Republic—the birthplace of both her parents—Julia Alvarez is one of America’s most esteemed authors, bringing a unique voice to her extensive oeuvre. The author of bestsellers How the Garcia Sisters Lost Their Accent and In the Time of Butterflies, Alvarez explores themes of culture and assimilation, especially in the Latin American community. With her husband, Bill Eichner, she founded Alta Gracia, a sustainable organic coffee farm and literacy project in the Dominican Republic. Julia Alvarez talks about her evolution as a writer of the Americas and discusses themes of multiculturalism.

thanks to Jocelyn who noticed that JSTOR was not getting results through BPL.org searches. Here's the hint:
-http://bpl.org/electronic/alpha.asp#j
-click on "JSTOR" (the actual name, not the check box)
